Unemployment security or as some call it, unemployment benefit, compensates for financial losses caused by unemployment.
Register as an unemployed jobseeker in order to receive unemployment benefits. After registration, if you apply for an unemployment benefit, you will be issued a labour policy statement on your eligibility for the benefit or a request for further information.
Apply for unemployment security
Find out if your benefits are to be paid by your unemployment fund or Kela. Different forms of unemployment benefits are earnings-related unemployment allowance, basic allowance or labour market subsidy.
- If you are a member of a trade union and through it, an unemployment fund, apply for earnings-related unemployment benefits from your fund. You can also be just member of an unpeloyment fund without being a member or a trade union.
- If you are not a member of an unemployment fund, apply for basic allowance or labour market subsidy from Kela.
Apply for an unemployment benefit starting from the first day of your unemployment.
You may be entitled to an increased benefit if you take part in services that promote employment. This requires that your participation in this service is mentioned in your employment plan or similar.
Instructions for customers in local government trials on employment
If you are a customer of a local government trial on employment, your municipality of residence issues a labour policy statement to the payer of the unemployment benefit if it is part of the municipality's duties under the act on local government trial on employments. If necessary, the municipality may also submit a request for clarification, which you can easily answer in E-services.
