The career services I have always wanted

Blog

My fixed-term employment relationship was about to end in the autumn and searching for a job seemed difficult. Couldn’t I just tell someone what I can do, and they would tell me where that would be useful? Occupational titles look so outlandish these days that it is difficult to hit the mark by browsing them. What if my expertise could be useful somewhere else besides state administration? Such as in IT or the chemical industry, but I just don't know it?

Then I remembered Job Market Finland - a service in which jobseekers and employers are matched based on skills.

I signed in and filled in a job applicant profile. I described my most recent work experience, my training and skills, as well as what I would like to learn in my next job.

Although I had not yet completed my profile, I started seeing a list of jobs flow into another tab, in which the competences I had just mentioned were needed. It was so nice that someone - AI in this case - had curated these jobs for me.

If I had wanted to, I could have published my job applicant profile so that an employer looking for an employee could have seen it and contacted me. Even though they say that jobs don’t come to your doorstep, this is pretty close.

What happened in my search?

After about ten applications, I was asked to work in communications for Job Market Finland.

That is why I will end my blog post with the Job Market communications hat on my head, asking you to share your personal experience of using Job Market Finland. What do you think of the job recommendations, or did you find help with your work situation from the content pages?

If you want to give feedback on the functioning of our service, our communications, or want to participate in developing Job Market Finland together, please contact us through the feedback form or the feedback bot. We are constantly developing the service based on the feedback we receive.
